Solar/Design

Our photovoltaic (PV) installations will allow you to generate energy from solar power in a green and cost-effective way. There are a number of different options and we’ll help you decide on what’s best for your domestic or commercial property, based upon your individual circumstances, your budget and your electricity requirements.

Solar panels and tiles

PV cells are panels that you can attach to your roof or walls. Each cell is made from one or two layers of semi-conducting material, usually silicon. When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers. The stronger the sunshine, the more electricity is produced.

PV cells come in a variety of shapes and colours, from grey "solar tiles" that look like roof tiles, to panels and transparent cells that you can use on conservatories and glass.

The strength of a PV cell is measured in kilowatt peak (kWp). That's the amount of energy the cell generates in full sunlight.

Designing your ‘solar system’

The first step to generating electricity from solar panels is for us to come and survey your property and discuss the options with you. We’ll assess issues such as the direction your roof or wall faces in, the amount of sun that your property gets and whether there are any obstructions such as buildings and trees. We’ll also assess your roof in terms of its strength and condition and the types of PV cells which might be most suitable. During the design phase we’ll discuss any potential planning permission you may need with you. In most cases, this won’t be necessary but it’s worth checking with your local planning officer just in case.

If you’re interested in generating your own energy from the power of the sun, get in touch for a consultation.
